This plant is a hardy perennial which can easily reach ten feet (3 mtrs) or more if fed well and is in a sunny position. It will tolerate some shade. The leaves can easily reach 16(45cm) inches across. It has a milky latex which can be an irritant and stains clothes. This picture was taken in the early autumn when the plant is starting to die down. The flowering plumes reminds me of sugarcane flowers. The main plume is a large raceme with reddish brown sepals and yellow anthers. Other recemes are bourne in the leaf axils
