This shrub is hardy and tough and can be vigorous sending up suckers that can soon overwhelm the garden. It can be trained topairy fashion and is spectacular when in full flower in late winter or early spring. It flowers on the previous years growth so pruning must be done just after flowering for best results. Very old wood should be cut back to the ground to encourage new growth especially as it does not flower on very old wood.
