In the tropics Clerodendron is a profuse bloomer and vigorous climber, C. Thomsoniae is adorned with rich crimson flowers peeking from white, balloon-like calyxes. Flowering heaviest in the spring, its deep, forest-green leaves are a welcome sight after a long dormant winter. Over here in London it needs warmth all winter and is not as vigorous, but when it flowers it gives a mass display. I have been trying to grow this for about two years. This plant almost died last year and is only now recovering. The larger plant I have has not flowered as yet.
