At this time of the year when most of the leaves have fallen the evergreens, like the ivies, take over and keep the garden looking like a garden. Ivy needs care as it is a vigorous growing climber and will outgrow even trees. Therefore much pruning to keep it in check is needed, but the effort is worth it especially at this time of the year when most of the plants have lost their leaves or have died down. Ivy also flowers very late in the year and provides nectar for insects that are still flying at this time. The flower heads are unusual and pretty when little else is flowering.
