This is one piece of garden equipment I would not like to be without in a small garden as it shreds the larger pieces of pruning and cuttings into a small bulk. ready for composting. Doing this enables the compost to rot down much quicker and in about three months I will be digging this compost out of the bottom of the bin to put on next years plants. If I did not shred the garden waste it would take up so much more space in the garden. If I have too much compost I put the shreddings directly on the plants as a mulch and allow the worms, slugs and snails to drag it down into the soil. Having plenty of organic matter in the soil keeps the pests that eat your plants in the soil therefore lessening the damage they cause.
