This Echium self seeded itself in the trunk of the Tree Fern a couple of years ago. I left it to its own devices as the Tree Fern grows from its trunk. The Echium has grown this year to a size where it will flower next year. When it does it will be spectacular as the flower spike can reach 6 feet(2mtrs) then the plant dies and I expect the roots to provide nutrients for the Tree Fern. The Tree fern does not show any sign of distress, but I will monitor it. Especially when I bring it inside for the winter. The other wisps of climbers are the Jasmine which has reached the top of the Echium.
