This Chinese garden, designed by Shao Fan and sponsored by K T Wong Charitable Trust, explores the boundaries between Eupopean modern and traditional Chinese garden design. It is a sunken garden with steps down to rustic buildings shadowed by large formal pine trees. The plants used have been chosen for their use in traditional herbal medicine and for their cultural symbolism. The small pond is filled with koi fish. Each plant or tree has been chosen for its individual beauty and unique characteristics most admired by the literati scholars. The bright and flamboyant plants and planting are in a space that seeks to be a retreat or refuge from society.
