But what joy

Poem by Don Mapp Created in 1993

To truly love a robin
It must be free
But what joy
When the robin learns
To trust a man
And cometh to feed
From his hand
Both man and robin
Are enriched
The robin with food contented
The man with spirits uplifted
Both must be free
To live their lives
But what joy
When together their lives entwine

This poem was created in response to letting the ones you love go their own way. It is very hard to do, but it allowed the love to continue and develop in other ways.
