There are more than 20 named species and many hybrids and cultivars. The most common strawberries grown commercially are cultivars of the Garden strawberry, Fragaria ×ananassa. I do not know what cultivar this one is, but the fruits are very nice and juicy. Strawberries would get swamped in my garden, therefore the best place to grow them is in pots and trays. This West facing wall is covered with foil to reflect light into the north facing plants. Also having them by the back door I can pick one or two as I enter the garden. The runners are potted on by hanging pots by string from the box. These will flower and fruit next year.
