I was introduced to this perennial by one of the staff of Christopher Lloyd's Nursery at Great Dixter near Hastings in the south of England. I have been pleased with it ever since. Every year its delicate foilage is almost lost in the other greenery until the raceme of purple flowers start to burst out. It dies down completely in the winter and can easily be missed when digging up or weeding. Mine grows to a height of about 3 feet(1mtr) and flowers in summer.
