There are many varieties of Deutzias. It is a genus of about 60 species of flowering plants in the family Hydrangeaceae, native to eastern and central Asia and Central America and also Europe.
It is a shrub 1–4 m (3 ft 3 in–13 ft 1 in) in height. It is deciduous and flowers in May to June. The leaves are opposite, simple, with a serrated margin. The flowers are produced in panicles or corymbs and is white and pink. It is relatively hardy, but the slugs and snails love the leaves. It is well worth spraying the underside of the leaves and stems with Slug Clear as the flowers are very impressive flowering in mass.
