This shrub can get very large up to a height and spread of 6 feet (2mtrs) or more. The colour of the flowerhaeds change from pink to blue depending on whether the soil is alkaline or acid. Originally from Japan and introduced into UK in 1788. There's now a bewildering choice of colour and flowerhead shapes that even the experts can't always distinguish between them. They need planty of water during the growing season. This one is actually comming through from my neighbours garden.
