The flower head of this Allium, as the name suggest, is not the largest, but is one of the tallest. The deep purple of this Allium reaches up to about one metre and if strong winds are a problem it will need staking. The flowers are good for cut flowers and the dried seed heads are ideal for dried flower arrangements. It is hardy but needs a sandy soil with good drainage. It works best If you can plant them in groups behind low growing plants.
