This Abutilon is more a climber than a shrub or tree. It shoots continually extends and tends to droop with its weight. It is therefore best if it can climb through other plants as here where it displays its flower to best effect. It is not fully hardy, but this one has survived outside for the past three years. At the coldest point of winter I throw some sheets or bubble-wrap over it as I do not think it will tolerate heavy frost.
