This Mirabilis or Marvel of Peru is an unusual plant. It can grow to about 4ft (120cm) and with a similar spread given the right conditions. The flowers open in the evening with a delicate scent. There are some with single flowers, but I prefer this one with the variegated flowers. I get flowers from purple to yellow with mixtures in between on the same plant. It dies down when the frost arrives and does not shows sign of life until July the following ear. The stems are weak and usually needs tying together as they may snap or fall down. It produces abundant black seeds which will germinate earlier than July. The tuber root left in the ground usually gives a larger plant the following year, with rapid growth in July.
